Pakistan announced the itinerary on Tuesday for their autumn series against Sri Lanka, to be played in the neutral territory of the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan have been forced to play on foreign soil since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore two years ago shattered the global cricketing community's faith in the nation being able guarantee the safety of touring sides. Eight people died while seven Sri Lankan players and a coach were wounded in the attack, which ended already-fragile hopes of the insurgency-wracked nation hosting international cricket.

Pakistan, who have been playing their home matches in the UAE since 2008, offered to host Sri Lanka at home, but the invitation was rejected after a military base in Karachi was attacked in May this year.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play three Tests - one each in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah - while three ODIs will go ahead in Dubai and one each in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi will stage the only Twenty20 match.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Ashley Cole, David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Bosingwa; Oriol Romeu, Ramires, Raul Meireles; Florent Malouda, Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka.

Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Josh McEachran, Juan Mata, Daniel Sturridge, Salomon Kalou.

A win here would more or less guarantee the group stages for Chelsea. Let's put last weekend behind us and get the three points!

Chelsea obliterating Racing Genk at Stamford Bridge. Coming into Tuesday's Matchday 4 encounter in Belgium, Genk had yet to score a goal in the Champions League. That changed in this match, as Belgian international striker and lethal finisher Jelle Vossen scored against Chelsea, giving his team the equalizer in a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea were easily the better team in the first half and were the better team for most of the second half as well, but could only find one goal. Ramires scored that only tally in the 25th minute, assisted by Fernando Torres. Chelsea had a chance to double their lead through a penalty kick in the 39th minute, but László Köteles made an excellent save on David Luiz.

The Blues seemed to take their foot off the gas and Genk looked more threatening through the second half, though a goal never looked absolutely imminent. Vossen found a chance and capitalized in the 61st minute, though, scoring a close-range goal assisted by Fabien Camus. The entire back line was in shambles on the goal, and Jose Bosingwa in particular was caught completely out of position.

Chelsea pushed forward and created a number of half chances between then and the end of the match, with substitute Frank Lampard missing the best one in the 78th minute, but they ultimately failed to score. With this 1-1 draw, Chelsea are now just two points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and three points ahead of Valencia.

Viktoria Plzen 0-4 Barcelona Champions League Highlights

Viktoria Plzen 0-4 Barcelona Champions League Highlights: A Lionel Messi hat-trick smoothed FC Barcelona's progress into the knockout stages as the holders eased to a 4-0 win against ten-man FK Viktoria Plzeň.

The unlikely hopes raised by the Czech champions' breathless start were dashed following Marián Čišovský's 22nd-minute dismissal, which afforded Messi the opportunity to score his 200th goal for Barça with a nonchalant penalty. He then brought up a half-century of strikes for 2011 just before the break and claimed a second hat-trick in as many games in added time after Cesc Fàbregas had headed in the third. It means both Barcelona and AC Milan have sealed their places in the last 16 with two games to spare.Viktoria Plzen 0-4 Barcelona Champions League Highlights

Prior to kick-off, Plzeň captain Pavel Horváth had joked his team were eyeing a shock victory, but the hosts' punchy opening suggested there was substance to his light-hearted banter. When Barcelona conceded possession cheaply, Milan Petržela's devastating burst of speed took him clear only for Víctor Valdés to foil him before Daniel Kolář shot over.

There was a limit to Barça's generosity, though, and they snapped into their stride when Plzeň's guard dropped. The hosts were vulnerable when they gave the ball away outside their own box – Čišovský's desperate lunge stopped Messi as he shaped to shoot, but also sent the Argentinian tumbling. With the Slovakian defender sent off, Messi retained his poise to side-foot in from the spot.

With his team-mates seemingly content to allow him to hog the limelight, Messi kept Roman Pavlík warm on a chilly evening in the Czech capital. The 35-year-old goalkeeper, who was making his group stage debut, turned aside a pair of Messi drives, but when the impish forward exchanged passes with Adriano inside the box, Pavlík could not prevent the Barça star doubling his team's lead.

Fàbregas came within a whisker of fluffing Barça's cushion to a comfortable three goals shortly after the restart, and only an imperious flying save from Pavlík halted a dipping Messi free-kick as their pair resumed their personal duel.

Plzeň's forward forays were understandably limited, but when David Limberský's cross found Petržela unmarked at the back post, the Czech international should have done better than volley into the side netting. Fàbregas did not make the same mistake when Isaac Cuenca's flighted centre found him six metres out before Messi latched on to Gerard Piqué's back-heel to make it four and seal a two-point lead over Milan ahead of their matchday five meeting in Italy.

Aldershot Town v Manchester United - English Carling Cup 2011

Aldershot Town v Manchester United - English Carling Cup 2011: Manchester United avoided further humiliation after their derby drubbing as they breezed through tonight's Carling Cup clash at Aldershot.

An entirely different starting XI to the side thrashed 6-1 on Sunday by Manchester City made sure there was no hangover thanks to Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia's first goals of the season and another competition strike from Michael Owen.

Aldershot tried their best to bridge the gulf in class between npower League Two also-rans and the Barclays Premier League champions, but they failed until late on to seriously test a rearguard that had looked vulnerable in the extreme in recent weeks.Aldershot 0 – 3 Man Utd

United arrived in Aldershot to witness a town buzzing for the club's biggest game since they reformed in 1992 following the demise of Aldershot FC, and one of the biggest since the latter hosted a star-studded United team in the same competition 41 years earlier.

Their 7,300-capacity ground was full to bursting and the home fans arrived hoping to see one of the biggest shocks in League Cup history against a side who had never lost to a club from the fourth tier of English football.

United had also not suffered as bad a derby defeat as City inflicted on them in 85 years, a result manager Sir Alex Ferguson branded the worst of his entire career.

Dean Holdsworth's Shots were looking to compound his misery and there were a few minor scares early on as the visitors gave the ball away in midfield.

But United soon took charge and Tom Cleverley, back after six weeks out with a foot injury, curled over the bar from 20 yards.

Returning captain Nemanja Vidic was booked for felling Alex Rodman in the 10th minute but that was a false dawn for the home side as the visitors showcased their superior class five minutes later.

Park Ji-sung played a one-two with Cleverley on the edge of the box before finding Dimitar Berbatov, who passed the lay-off into the net.

The home fans responded with chants of ''We're going to win 6-1'', which looked optimistic when Fabio dragged wide and Luke Guttridge was forced to clear Berbatov's knock-down from in front of goal.

But Aldershot almost levelled through a superb solo effort from the dangerous Jermaine McGlashan, who ran at the heart of United's defence before unleashing a rising drive that just cleared the crossbar.

Berbatov and Mame Diouf both powered headers over under pressure before Michael Rankine failed to make the most of a free header from a corner and Danny Hylton sent a turn and shot straight at Ben Amos from a tight angle.

That was in the 41st minute and United immediately broke down the right with Berbatov squaring for Owen, whose shot straight down the middle managed to beat Ross Worner for his third goal in two League Cup ties this season.

Rodman failed to emerge for the second half after taking a knock to the shoulder towards the end of the first, with Bradley Bubb coming on.

The contest was over three minutes later as United scored with the first attack of the half, a 20-yard Antonio Valencia piledriver leaving Worner clutching air.

Aldershot looked determined to salvage some pride but that left them wide open on the counter and Berbatov dragged wide when he really should have made it 4-0.

Cleverley's comeback lasted just short of an hour as United brought on Paul Pogba, who was joined on the field by Ravel Morrison and Michael Keane 10 minutes later, Diouf and Ezekiel Fryers being replaced.

Aldershot introduced Jamie Collins for Peter Vincenti, while their fans continued to give as good as they got in the banter stakes with the small pocket of United supporters.

With 10 minutes remaining, Worner produced arguably the only world-class moment of Aldershot's night with a sensational save from Berbatov's 20-yard free-kick.

Adam Smith came on for Rankine and a late rally saw Guttridge drill inches wide and force a brilliant stop from Amos with a curling free-kick before Valencia blazed over when clean through on the break. Source http://soccernet.espn.go.com

Real Madrid vs Villarreal 3-0 Goals Highlights

Real Madrid vs Villarreal 3-0 Goals Highlights: Surprise leaders Levante continued their remarkable early-season run when Ruben Suarez netted a powerful stoppage-time free kick to snatch a 3-2 comeback victory at home to Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

In-form Real Madrid reclaimed second spot from Barcelona thanks to a crushing 3-0 win over struggling Villarreal, while Valencia climbed above Sevilla into fourth after Jordi Alba struck an 82nd-minute winner in a 1-0 victory at Real Zaragoza.

Six straight wins had lifted unbeaten Levante, whose annual budget of around 20 million euros ($27.6 million) is one of the smallest in the league, above Barca and Real to the top of the standings for the first time in the 102-year history of the tiny Valencia-based club.Real Madrid vs Villarreal 3-0 Goals Highlights

Their latest success, the first time any club other than Barca and Real have won seven in a row since 2002, gives them 23 points from nine matches, one more than Real and two ahead of Barca following the champions’ 1-0 win at Granada on Tuesday.

“This run we are on is almost impossible,” Levante coach Juan Ignacio Martinez, who revealed this week that he used to be a bodyguard for a Spanish singer, said at a news conference.

“Having to talk so much about being top of the table is quite difficult psychologically so coming back to win tonight is even more impressive,” added the 47-year-old, who is in his debut top-flight campaign.

Daniel Estrada put San Sebastian-based Sociedad ahead in the fourth minute at Levante’s Ciutat de Valencia stadium.

Nano levelled for the home side nine minutes after the break with a deflected shot and Valdo nodded Levante in front seven minutes later before Inigo Martinez drove the ball through a crowd of players for an 86th-minute equaliser.

Suarez smashed in a superb long-range free kick deep into second-half added time to ensure Levante can live the dream for a few more days at least.

Jose Mourinho’s Real, who crashed to a shock 1-0 defeat at Levante last month, turned in another impressive performance at their Bernabeu stadium for their fifth win in a row, a run in which they have netted 21 goals.

Defeat for Villarreal heaped more pressure on their coach Juan Carlos Garrido, whose side are 17th with only seven points and are on the verge of elimination from the Champions League.

Karim Benzema starred for Real, netting a sixth-minute opener and sending Angel Di Maria clear for the home side’s third just after the half hour. Brazilian playmaker Kaka scored the second with a fine strike from just outside the penalty area in the 11th minute.

In Wednesday’s other games, 10-man Malaga lost 2-0 at Rayo Vallecano and stay sixth, Getafe drew 2-2 at home to Osasuna and Real Mallorca surrendered the lead to lose 2-1 against visiting Sporting Gijon.Source

Manchester City Tops Wolverhampton 5-2 in Carling Cup Soccer

Manchester City Tops Wolverhampton 5-2 in Carling Cup Soccer: Wolves took the lead through a Nenad Milijas strike, but a double from Edin Dzeko, and efforts from Adam Johnson, Samir Nasri and a Dorus de Vries own-goal saw City continue their impressive form.Manchester City 5-2 Wolves

Both Wolves and Manchester City made wholesale changes to their respective teams with Mick McCarthy making nine alterations and Roberto Mancini resting all 11 players that defeated Manchester United 6-1 on Sunday.

Stephen Ward and Kevin Doyle were the only Wolves players to keep their place in the side while Kolo Toure, Samir Nasri and debutant Luca Scapuzzi all started for City.

Both teams looked energetic from the start but it was Wolves who looked the dominant force early on. The home team tested City with plenty of enticing crosses but all of them were dealt with confidently by the Mancini’s defence.

Stephen Hunt proved lively early on with a penetrating run through the visitor's backline, but was obstructed by Stefan Savic who picked up a yellow card.

Hunt then linked up well with Stephen Ward on the left flank and crossed a fizzing ball to David Edwards who headed over the crossbar.

Wolves continued to pile on the pressure and had a penalty claim turned down after a quarter of an hour, as Aleksandar Kolarov seemingly nudged the ball out of play with his arm.

The pressure eventually paid off for Wolves as they bagged the first goal of the night on the 18th minute. Sam Vokes showed good skill on the right, flying past Toure before crossing a low ball into the path of Milijas who smashed home past the helpless Costel Pantilimon.

Hopes fade | Adam Johnson's effort flies past Dorus de Vries as Man City draw level

City came close to an equaliser minutes later after Kolarov found Scapuzzi, who turned well inside the box but shot wide.

Wolves then saw their lead quickly capitulate as City scored three goals in quick succession. With 10 minutes remaining before half time, Zabaleta found Dzeko who unselfishly fed the ball to Johnson on the edge of the box and the England international rifled the ball past De Vries.

Nasri then put the Blues in front - confidently firing the ball into the bottom left after being fed a scintillating pass by Johnson.

Minutes later, Johnson was involved again. He crossed a cracking ball into the far post and, after Scapuzzi’s effort was saved, Dzeko’s attacking instincts came into play as he put away the rebound a few yards from goal.

Within five minutes of the second half, Wolves problems were exacerbated as City grabbed their fourth of the game. Kolarov found himself in acres of space down the left flank, crossing the ball to Nasri, but after his shot was saved, Scapuzzi forced an own-goal from the scrambling De Vries.

There was no halt as City continued to prove their credentials, this time Nasri, Dzeko and Scapuzzi all combined well on the edge of the box as the young Italian found Dzeko, who grabbed his second goal of the evening from two yards out.

In an attempt to get back into the game, under-fire McCarthy brought on Jamie O’Hara and Karl Henry, with the former making an immediate impact. Ward picked out O’Hara from the left flank and the former Tottenham man clinically slotted the ball past the young Romanian keeper.

The result provides another resounding victory for Mancini's side as they progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, whilst struggling Wolves will hope they can exact meaningful revenge when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Saturday at Eastlands. Source www.goal.com/

Everton vs Chelsea Carling Cup Highlights 1-2 Goals

Everton vs Chelsea Carling Cup Highlights 1-2 Goals: Chelsea beat Everton 2-1 after extra time at Goodison Park in a Carling Cup game probably best described as lunatic. By the end of two hours of play, both sides had missed a penalty and seen a man sent off, but by the sound of it (the game wasn't televised, remarkably) the Florent-Malouda-led Blues ended up deserving their win, which was secured by substitute Daniel Sturridge in the 116th minute.

The match started innocuously enough, not punctuated by any sort of excitement until Josh McEachran, starting as one of ten changes Andre Villas-Boas made to the team that that lost to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday*, wandered into the Everton box, had a shot blocked, and then was taken down by Johnny Heitinga for no reason at all. It was the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to go 1-0 up, which was rather wasted when Nicolas Anelka slipped his shot wide of Jan Mucha's goal.Everton vs Chelsea Carling Cup Highlights

No worries for Chelsea, though - they'd have the lead before halftime thanks to a dreadful piece of goalkeeping by Tim Howard's backup. The visitors were happily attacking for some time but didn't look like making much progress until a rather hopeful lob attempt by Salomon Kalou sailed hilariously through Mucha's hands, bounced off the goalkeeper, and rolled over the line to make it 1-0. Whoops.

Anelka had a great chance to extend the lead after the break when he sprung clear of the defence, but shot straight at Mucha with Romelu Lukaku free in the centre. Chelsea would end up paying for that mistake when Louis Saha nipped around the back of their lines and was brought down by Ross Turnbull, who was issued a straight red card* for his troubles, with Lee Mason pointing to the spot for good measure. Turnbull had had it coming, with a string of ludicrous decisions rather giving the impression that he'd taken copious amounts of acid during halftime.

*I've heard people say that this might only have been worth a yellow since David Luiz was in a position to cover, which is insane because it's still a DGSO when the goalkeeper is in position to cover.

Losing one's goalkeeper obviously necessitates changes, and Petr Cech was deployed at Romelu Lukaku's expense. Leighton Baines stepped up to take the spot kick, and fired straight down the middle, with Cech only able to parry back into the left back's path. Amazingly, he recovered quickly enough to block the followup effort too, and the ball was finally cleared out of play.

Everton had the advantage now, though, and absolutely ripped into ten-man Chelsea. Just a minute after the penalty attempt Diniyar Bilyaletdinov drew another top-class save from Cech as the Blues were overrun. Here is a paraphrased quote from the radio guys describing the carnage that followed:Source www.weaintgotnohistory.com

Stoke City 1-2 Liverpool Carling Cup Highlights Result

Stoke City 1-2 Liverpool Carling Cup Highlights Result: Luis Suárez answered some of his critics with the two goals that took Liverpool into the Carling Cup quarter-finals. A goal down at the interval, the visitors were indebted to their Uruguayan striker for almost single-handedly masterminding their recovery, dispelling in the process the myth that he does not convert enough chances to be regarded as a clinical finisher. He missed a few chances here too, but took the important couple well enough to impress anyone.

"The wee man scored a fantastic goal," was Kenny Dalglish's appraisal of the stunning second-half equaliser. "And the header for the second wasn't bad either. We wouldn't mind him scoring the odd tap-in, and if we had put a couple of our chances away in the first half it would have made things easier, but all you can say about a goal like that is that it was worth waiting for."

Liverpool made eight changes from the draw with Norwich City at the weekend but kept faith with Suárez, their outstanding performer in that game, and kept Pepe Reina in goal. Both players were involved quickly, the goalkeeper backpedalling hastily and being relieved to see Jon Walters's speculative chip land on the roof of his net, then the striker just failing to fasten on to a rebound when Thomas Sorensen beat out a powerful shot from Andy Carroll.

On Saturday Suárez was mostly foiled by the excellence of John Ruddy, a pattern that seemed to be repeating itself here when Sorensen saved at point-blank range midway through the first half. Liverpool had just put together their best passing move of the game through Maxi Rodríguez and Lucas Leiva, and when the latter's square ball found Suárez free on the six-yard line Sorensen had to react quickly to smother a first-time shot.

Apart from Rory Delap's long throws Stoke were finding it difficult to put Liverpool's defence under pressure, although Jamie Carragher was lucky to escape with only a yellow card for an ugly, scything tackle that upended Matthew Etherington. Lucky he wasn't playing for Chelsea against QPR at the weekend, for instance, otherwise he would have been off.Stoke City 1-2 Liverpool Result

Sorensen was called upon again to save from Carroll and then Martin Kelly either side of the first half's major talking point. Stoke moving their touchlines in by a yard or so has given Delap even more of a runup and less ground to cover, and he achieved such a velocity in the 36th minute that Walters was able to beat Reina with a simple glancing header. Lee Probert had already decided that the goalkeeper had been impeded, however, although it was impossible even after a few replays to establish by whom. Certainly Walters did not make any sort of illegal contact, indeed any contact, and there was no one else in the goalkeeper's vicinity.

If that was an injustice, it was quickly corrected. Stoke took the lead on the stroke of the interval through a Kenwyne Jones diving header, following a fairly calamitous mistake by Sebastián Coates. Having indicated to team-mates he was about to deal with a bouncing ball near the left touchline, Liverpool's Uruguayan defender was surprised to be dispossessed by Walters, and could only watch as the hitherto anonymous Jones stooped to meet a low cross and direct a header expertly beyond Reina's reach.

Kenny Dalglish sent out Martin Skrtel for the second half, not for the hapless Coates but for the cautioned Carragher. It appeared that what the visitors lacked was a midfield presence rather than another centre-half, yet while Suárez is on the pitch there is always hope and the striker conjured an early equaliser without needing anyone's help. Cutting inside Robert Huth on the left, Suárez weighed his options, nutmegged Ryan Shotton on the edge of the area, then found the inside of the right-hand upright with a curling shot that not even Sorensen could reach.

That deflated the home side a little, though a labouring Liverpool were unable to come up with any more moments of individual brilliance until Suárez hit the winner five minutes from the end. When the substitute Craig Bellamy struck a post moments earlier it was Liverpool's first real threat since their equaliser, but Suárez was in position once again when it mattered. Jordan Henderson deserved most credit, improvising cleverly to angle in a volleyed first-time cross, which found Suárez onside at long last for a firm header back across the goalkeeper.

"He's special," Tony Pulis agreed. "A real handful whether he's got the ball or not. I don't have any complaints about the result, I thought Liverpool were the better team, but we should have had a penalty at the end when Peter Crouch was brought down. It was a clear foul, and not getting anything for that was a bit hard to take after having a goal chalked off in the first half for something no one could see."Source

Florida Panthers Vs Montreal Canadiens 2-1 Victory

Florida Panthers Vs Montreal Canadiens 2-1 Victory: Markstrom made 40 saves and Scottie Upshall scored 5:02 into the third period to help the Florida Panthers extend Montreal's losing streak to six with a 2-1 win over the Canadiens on Monday night.Florida Panthers Vs Montreal Canadiens 2-1 Victory

The 21-year-old Swede made his second career start and recorded his second straight win, including an 18-save relief outing in a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday.

"For a young guy, it's tough to come into a building like this to start after your first win," Upshall said. "He played unreal in the third period last game for us and to follow it up tonight with save after save, especially late in the game, too. This crowd can be very intimidating but he definitely held himself very well and he was a big part of our victory tonight."

Tomas Fleischmann scored a power-play goal in the first for Florida, which won its second in a row to improve to 5-3.

"The whole team was playing unbelievably well and stuck with it for 60 minutes, and this is the result," said Markstrom, who made 29 saves in a 3-0 loss in Washington in his NHL debut Tuesday.

Montreal fell to 1-5-2, continuing its worst start in 70 years. It is the deepest the Canadiens have gone into a season with only one win since 1941-42, when they got off to a 1-10-1 start that included a pair of losses to the Brooklyn Americans.

"Nobody likes losing," said Erik Cole, who scored on a power play 3:08 in for his first Montreal goal. "We're tired of it. We need to just find a way to get over the hump."

Backup Peter Budaj stopped 29 shots in his Canadiens debut.

"Peter played a good game," Montreal coach Jacques Martin said. "I mean, you can't blame him. He gave us a good chance. He made some big saves at key times in the game."

Upshall deflected Dmitry Kulikov's shot in midair, redirecting the puck past Budaj to give Florida its first lead. A video review upheld the goal.

"I was wondering if they were just doing it to see who scored the goal because the stick was pretty low," Upshall said.

Both teams had new players picked up in trades in their lineups.

Marco Sturm made his Florida debut after he was acquired along with Mikael Samuelsson from Vancouver on Saturday in a deal that sent David Booth and Steve Reinprecht to the Canucks.

Petteri Nokelainen played his first game for the Canadiens, who acquired him in a trade with Phoenix on Sunday.

Cole got his first Montreal goal 3:08 in with a power-play tally that was originally credited to Max Pacioretty. The puck struck Cole in front of the net on its way past Markstrom after Pacioretty deflected Yannick Weber's shot from the point.

Cole, who signed a four-year, $18-million free agent deal with the Canadiens on July 1, drew a cheer for his first goal in eight games when PA announcer Michel Lacroix announced the scoring change early in the second. The goal was only the Canadiens' third in 30 opportunities with the man advantage this season.

Montreal failed to score on two other power plays, including the final 50 seconds after Jason Garrison was called for hooking, falling to 3 for 32 overall.

"To me that was probably the best power play that we've had this year, not only the fact that we scored but we created several other good chances," Martin said. "So I think we've got to continue on that and hopefully we're better on the penalty killing. I think we allowed seven scoring chances tonight and two goals get in."

Fleischmann drew Florida even 1-1 with a power-play goal at 15:59. Kris Versteeg got an assist as Fleischman beat Budaj with a shot that squeaked through the Montreal backup's pads.

Pacioretty left the game after he was injured late in the second. He did not return. Martin said it was an upper-body injury that would be re-evaluated Tuesday. Source http://sports.espn.go.com

Manchester United Vs Manchester City 1 - 6

MANCHESTER, England— Manchester City thrashed fierce rival Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday to hand Alex Ferguson his heaviest defeat in 25 years in charge.

“I’m shattered, I can’t believe it,” a shocked Ferguson said after seeing his side’s 37-match unbeaten run at home come to a dramatic halt.

Mario Balotelli scored twice for a rampant City and Sergio Aguero added a third. Two late goals from Edin Dzeko and another from David Silva earned City its biggest win at Old Trafford since winning 5-0 in 1955 — the last time United lost by five in the topflight.Manchester United Vs Manchester City  1 - 6

Jonny Evans, the United central defender who was at fault for Balotelli’s opening goal, was shown a straight red card in the 46th minute for a foul on the Italian forward.

Darren Fletcher had given United a glimmer of hope when he scored in the 81st to make it 3-1, but with United piling forward in search of an unlikely point, City took full advantage with three goals in the last four minutes.

City, which won the last of its two topflight titles in 1968, leads the 19-time champions by five points after nine games.

City manager Roberto Mancini said the result was “important for our confidence,” but added: “This is only one game.

“United is better than us.”

For the first hour, Balotelli took center stage, not least because of the latest bizarre off-field incident in which he had been embroiled over the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, two fire engines were sent to the 21-year-old Italy international’s home to douse a fire caused by a firework in his bathroom.

However, he was selected ahead of Dzeko and rewarded that decision in the 21st minute when Silva’s pass allowed James Milner to pull the ball back for Balotelli to convert an exquisite first-time right-foot finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Not content with the goal, Balotelli raised his jersey to display a T-shirt bearing the slogan “Why always me” which earned him a booking from referee Mark Clattenburg.

It hardly affected him, or City, and United’s fate was sealed a minute into the second half when Evans pulled back the Italian on the edge of the area and was dismissed.

It took City until the hour mark to make United pay when Silva and Milner combined once more, the latter crossing for Balotelli to convert easily at the far post.

Chances continued to fall for City and Aguero was the next player on the scoresheet after 68 minutes as Milner’s pass sent defender Micah Richards to the byline and he crossed into the six-yard area for the Argentine striker to convert from close range.

Balotelli was taken off, for fear that he might collect another yellow card, and replacement Dzeko might have scored before Fletcher exchanged passes with Javier Hernandez and curled in his team’s consolation goal from 20 yards after 81 minutes.

However, City would not be denied and scored three times in as many minutes over the closing stages.

In the last minute of normal time, Gareth Barry flicked on a corner and Joleon Lescott pulled the ball back across goal and into the United goal via Dzeko’s knee.

A minute later, Dzeko’s pass freed Silva to advance half the length of the field and beat the exposed David de Gea. Then, in the final of the three minutes of stoppage time, the same pair combined, Silva this time passing to Dzeko who had time and space to advance before completing the victory with a strong finish past De Gea.

English Premier League Everton routed Fulham 3-1

English Premier League Everton routed Fulham 3-1: A late double salvo from Louis Saha and Jack Rodwell earned Everton a 3-1 Premier League win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Everton routed Fulham 3-1
Royston Drenthe gave David Moyes's troops a first-half lead with a third-minute screamer, before Fulham's second-half substitute Bryan Ruiz came off the bench to level the scores with a breathtaking chip.

But Ruiz was then guilty of spurning a golden opportunity to win the game late on, which was only bettered by arguably the miss of the season from Bobby Zamora.

While the hosts were left questioning their wastefulness, the visitors swept up the other end and punished the hosts for the spendthrift shooting with two quickfire goals from Rodwell and Saha.

The game was barely three minutes old when Rodwell stumbled through a string of challenges before laying the ball into the path of Drenthe, who  slammed a left-foot howitzer past Mark Schwarzer from 20 yards.

This goal gave the visitors the impetus to push on as Marouane Fellaini and Rodwell both went close with headers from Leighton Baines crosses.

Apostolos Vellios should have doubled the guests' advantage when he met Tony Hibbert's cross from the right, but his misguided header sailed over the bar.

With 30 minutes on the clock, Fulham finally awoke from their slumber and pressed for an equaliser.

A 20-yard shot from Danny Murphy thumped against the post, before rebounding off Tim Howard and spinning over the bar.

The Everton goalkeeper then had to get down low to his right to palm away an effort from Clint Dempsey.

He was called into action again when a long throw from John Arne Riise found Brede Hangeland and the big defender sent a header goalwards. The American goalkeeper comfortably tipped the ball over the bar.

Before the referee brought the first half to an end, Dempsey hit a curling shot from the edge of the box just past the top left hand corner.

Fulham started the second half how they finished the first and should have been level when Hangeland rose to meet a free kick from Murphy.

The Norwegian sent a header wide of the post, when he should have crashed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

But from then on the game descended into a scrappy affair, with neither team stamping their authority until a moment of magic from Ruiz in the 67th minute.

The striker peeled off to the left as Dempsey drove at goal. The American laid the ball into the path of the former FC Twente man and with Howard marginally off his line, Ruiz lifted the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Fearing a fourth successive defeat, Moyes sent on reinforcements and it almost paid off. Saha came close to scoring as he pounced on a loose ball in the box and poked an effort at goal, which Schwarzer did well to save down low to his left.

With three minutes to play the hosts almost snatched all three points when Zamora picked out Ruiz lurking at the back post.

It should have been a formality, but the legs of Howard did enough to keep out the Costa Rican's acrobatic volley.

If Ruiz's miss was bad, Zamora's was catastrophic. The England striker raced through on goal, rounded Howard, and - as two Everton defenders desperately tried to form barricades - Zamora smashed his shot over the bar.

Zamora's rueful smile soon turned to a look of despair, as - with 90 minutes almost up - former Whites striker Saha shrugged off his marker and slid the ball past Schwarzer in front of the travelling faithful.

And, in injury time, a shell-shocked Fulham could only look on helplessly as Rodwell crashed a half volley from the edge of the box past an outstretched Schwarzer. Source http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/24102011/58/premier-league-everton-snatch-win-death.html

Chelsea 5-0 Genk Football Results Tonight

Goals from Branislav Ivanovic, Raul Meireles and a late strike from Soloman Kalou sealed a comfortable win for the Blues as they stay top of Group E.Chelsea 5-0 Genk Football Results Tonight

It was a match in which Torres silenced his critics as he played with a new found confidence, looking like the man who was once widely labeled as one of the best strikers in the world.

Andre Villas-Boas made six changes to the team he fielded against Everton: John Terry and strikers Didier Drogba, Juan Mata and Daniel Strurridge were all rested, while David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Torres and Champions League debutant Oriol Romeu all started.

Chelsea began the game confidently; dominating possession, playing intricate passes and leaving Genk with little hope from the get go.

After seven minutes, Meireles dinked a great ball into Torres, who controlled well but hit the post to start what many thought would be another frustrating night for the Spaniard. But moments later, Meireles found himself completely unchallenged and hit a cleanly struck shot from 25-yards into the bottom left hand corner - leaving Genk keeper Laszlo Koteles with no chance.

A few minutes later, Torres finally ended his Champions League goal-drought for Chelsea after he was put through by Lampard. The Spaniard finished calmly, slotting the ball to the keeper's bottom left.

Notheless, Genk's Kevin De Bruyne looked lively down the left flank for the Belgium charges, causing Chelsea problems with his creativity and flare. However, his team-mates failed to capitalise on the chances he created.

Chelsea came agonisingly close to a third goal when Torres burst down the left flank into the box and set up Malouda, but the Frenchman failed to take advantage of the opportunity as he side-passed the ball inches wide of the post.

But the game was effectively over within 30 minutes as Torres’ exceptional movement saw him clinically head the ball past Koteles for his second goal. Meireles’ cross was met with a confident header, as the Blues striker guided the ball past the keeper.

Torres then almost turned provider as he crossed the ball with the outside of his boot to Lampard, but the stand-in captain headed wide.

Five minutes before half time, Torres released Lampard who fed the ball to Nicolas Anelka but the Frenchman shot with too much power and his effort soared over the bar.

Rooney Vs Man United routed Otelul Galati 2-0

Wayne Rooney made two penalty kicks Tuesday to lead 10-man Manchester United a 2-0 road victory over the Romanian club Otelul Galati in the Champions League.Football News

Rooney opened the scoring in the 64th minute, but captain Nemanja Vidic was sent off two minutes later. Rooney’s other penalty kick came during injury time, giving United its first victory in Group C.

Real Madrid routed Lyon 4-0 to maintain its perfect record this season, getting goals from Karim Benzema, Sami Khedira, Mesut Oezil and Sergio Ramos.

Substitute Sergio Aguero had a late score to lead Manchester City past Villarreal 2-1, earning the Premier League leaders their first victory in Group A. Bayern Munich dropped its first points in the group, held to a 1-1 draw at Napoli.

Inter Milan beat Lille 1-0 to move to the top of Group B. Giampaolo Pazzini scoring the only goal in the 22nd minute.

Elsewhere, Dinamo Zagreb and Basel both lost 2-0 at home to Ajax and Benfica respectively, and CSKA Moscow beat Trabzonspor 3-0.

In Romania, Otelul also finished with 10 men when Milan Perendija was sent off late in the game.

“I think in these away games you have to work, they are not easy,” United coach Alex Ferguson said. “In the second half we improved a great deal. Nani’s performance in the second half was terrific. I’m satisfied with the result. It was a long night and we had to be patient.”

United’s first victory in the group put it in second place, two points behind Benfica after three games. Bruno Cesar and Oscar Cardozo scored to keep the Portuguese club unbeaten this season and deal Basel interim coach Heiko Vogel a loss in his first home match.

In Manchester, City came from behind to beat Villarreal when Aguero met a cross from Argentine compatriot Pablo Zabaleta with a simple tap-in at the far post in the fourth minute of stoppage time.Source http://www.koreaherald.com/national/Detail.jsp?newsMLId=20111019000813

French Football League 1 Match round-up

French Football League 1 Match round-up: Barcelona hold on to top spot for another week at least after an easy 3-0 victory on Saturday evening over a Racing Santander side who have not won in the Nou camp for 28 years. Guardiola's team had it wrapped up early on, Messi collecting Iniesta's pass before carving through the visiting defence to open the scoring in the eleventh minute, and Xavi heading a second midway through the first half from Pedro's cross. Racing's only reply was a speculative shot from youngster Koné, and Puyol, Villa and Messi all shot wide before Messi scored the third after Iniesta's shot came back off the post twenty minutes after the interval. Messi and Villa could have added to the lead after that, but with a Champions League game coming up midweek they called it a day. Barça are once more on song, and with an aggregate goal difference of 21-0 in their first four home games it seems that only Real Madrid can stand in the way of a fourth consecutive league title.Football News

Real Madrid themselves stay a point behind Barcelona after they too clocked up a comfortable 4-1 win over Betis. The Andalusians held their own up to half time, with 17 year old Vadillo bringing a good save out of Casillas before being stretchered off with a serious knee injury, and Beñat and Rubén Castro going close. Özil, Ronaldo, Higuaín and Kaká all failed to beat Casto at the other end, but just a minute after the restart Higuaín picked up a pass from Ronaldo to put José Mourinho's side ahead. Kaká made it two soon afterwards from another Ronaldo assist, and although Jorge Molina got one back, Di María set up Higuaín to score two more to complete his second hat-trick in a row in the league, and his third in the last fortnight, including the one he scored for Argentina last week. Good news for Mourinho, who is now spoilt for choice for his attacking line up to play Lyon next Tuesday.

The other three games on Saturday evening ended all square, Valencia losing ground on the top two after a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. Piatti shot just wide early on and Chori Castro had a shot deflected just wide in reply, and with seven minutes to go to the break Rami turned the ball over the line from a yard out after Zuiverloon blocked a shot from Víctor Ruíz following a corner. Hemed headed over a couple of times after the restart, but the game appeared to be lost for Joaquín Caparrós's new side until the second minute of injury time, when a shot from Pau Cendrós hit Topal on the arm at point blank range. Referee Paradas Romero pointed to the spot, and Hemed stepped up to convert his third penalty in two games.

Getafe and Villarreal shared the points in a 0-0 draw, a result which leaves them both in the lower half of the table. It was a game of two halves, with the locals on top at first and the visitors coming back later on. Güiza failed to covert three good chances early on, and before half time Codina had to push wide a long effort from Marcos Senna. Diego Castro just failed to get on the end of Sarabia's free kick after the interval, but Rossi wasted two or three opportunities to win it for the visitors after that. He will have to do better next Tuesday against Manchester City if his team is to stay in the Champions League.

Later in the evening Granada and Atlético Madrid also drew 0-0, the fifth time this season that Gregorio Manzano's team have failed to score in a league match. The locals had the better of the early play though, Uche heading against the post and Mainz and Dani Benítez both missing the target. Gabi and Reyes came up against Roberto before the break as Atleti fought back, but soon after the restart Geijo had a strike ruled out for a close offside, and Uche selfishly tried to beat Courtois from a tight angle when he had a colleague better placed in front of goal. In the last few minutes substitute Adrián tested Roberto again a couple of times, but once more the goal machine had dried up.
